Recently, the school decided to expand the NCS project in our school for students who have experienced difficult finding work, so it started the Industry Professional Practice (IPP) project for students in March of this year. It is for students in Years 3 and 4 who are currently enrolled at our school. However, students are curious about the IPP, but do not know enough about it well because there is not enough opportunity to access information. Therefore, they have a lack of information or feel confused about whether the program is suitable for them. The Pharos conducted an interview with a member of the IPP project administration team, Park Shin-gu, in order to inform students about the project and to give information to the first and second year students in advance.

Please explain specifically what the IPP’s long-term purpose is.

  IPP is an abbreviation for Industry Professional Practice and is supported by the country to encourage the development of long-term industrial activities. This is a longterm enterprise-linked training system that allows students to take a part of their university curriculum for a long period of more than four months at an industrial site. This enables them to acquire practical knowledge and skills required by companies. Not only does it set the course, but it also has the effect of making it possible for companies to find talented people early on. Due to the IPP project, students can complete major or liberal arts credits, and the practical support fee will be more than 1.36 million per month. In addition, the practical job skills-linked majors will be improved and can be exemplary in job competitiveness.

Participating departments were limited to the College of Economy and Business Administration, the College of Tourism Sciences, and the College of Natural Sciences. Why is it that students in the College of Humanities are not able to participate?

  Because it is a national program, the eligibility rules are fixed. Therefore, it is managed in accordance with set rules because it is operated with the support of the country. If the program plan is followed very well, it will be possible to open more courses because the budget will be increased. Only students in the currently open departments (major, double major, minor major) can participate. Therefore, a student of the College of Humanities can apply immediately after the approval of the department head of a double major that can take the IPP program.

Can students get credits through the IPP program? If so, how are the credits earned?

  You can get recognition. The IPP long-term work experience program runs during the semester. If the IPP project team connects students to companies and the students complete a long-term work experience period in a company, up to 12 credits can be earned in a major. However, you must apply for the IPP course at the time of registering for courses before beginning your work experience period. Also, it is not possible to participate in the IPP program for two consecutive semesters, but it is possible to participate in the program for up to 10 months if the company requires it. Students participating in the IPP program may choose to take e-learning or major courses during their participation period, but taking classes during the vacation periods is not required. For students who want to take vacation classes, the tuition will be fully supported by the IPP project team. However, since the budget for the vacation classes is limited, courses that can be taken are limited according to internal regulations.

How long will this program be operated?

  Starting this year, it is proceeding as a five-year project. It can be operated in the long term depending on the future situation of the industry.

Is there a scholarship or KGU benefits for outstanding students, such as academic scholarships?

  Since the role of the IPP project is to connect students with companies, the participating student will receive a scholarship of more than 1 million won after a comprehensive review of the student shows faithfulness in various aspects. Faithfulness will be measured by a participation report, an interview after the work experience period and other information.

To receive a state scholarship, a student has to get a score of 80 or more in the last semester. If a pass or non pass system is used, can the student get a state scholarship?

  A state scholarship is based on the last semester’s score or the semester before the last. In other words, it is measured by a score's existence, so you can get them.

If a participant spends a semester getting IPP Long-Term Work Experience, will their credits be transferred? Tell me in detail.

  The IPP Long-Term Work Experience Program awards students 3 or 6 liberal arts credits or 3, 6, 9 or 12major credits. You can choose what you want, but the maximum number of credits is 12.

  While doing IPP work, you can take e-learning courses or your major classes at the same time. E-learning is common in the liberal arts with students taking 1 to 3 general course credits and 3 major course credits, but it can differ among departments. Ultimately, you can get a maximum of 6 credits by taking on-campus classes or e-learning classes.

  Application for the second semester of 2017’s IPP Long-Term Work Experience Program is possible before the second semester’s class application period. I hope that many of you will participate. However, you must come to our IPP program office before applying for counseling.

  Most university students may have a lot of difficulty deciding on a job and getting professional experience. It is not easy to find this opportunity. We can get credits and a scholarship, and have various work experiences without doing a lot of searching. The more students experience the IPP program, the more the IPP Enterprise Organization will improve. Think about your career, and decide what is your job. After that, apply for this one. I hope you will be helped to get a job by using the IPP.
