May is called Family Month because it has the most family-related holidays such as Children’s Day, Parents’ Day, and Teacher’s Day. It is a good month to express your feelings to your loved ones. With the recent development of social media, you can write letters in a short time with a smartphone. However, there is no other type of letter that can convey the sincerity of the person who gives it as well as a carefully composed handwritten letter. Pharos visited the unique cafe called Nuldam Space where you can write warm letters to your loved ones with all your heart.

Nuldam Space is located in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, and it sells coffee and desserts. The signature drinks here are the black sesame cream latte and almond cream latte. All drinks and desserts are vegan-friendly. In particular, Nuldam Space sells postcard sets which are suitable for giving to friends, lovers, and family to make precious memories. There is no sign on the exterior of the cafe, and it is characterized by the letters to the future written on the window and posters. The interior has a clean white tone and uses wood tone furniture and orange lighting to create a warm and emotional atmosphere. The letter storage space looks like an English-style study, which has a big impact on the overall atmosphere of the cafe.

The postcard set sold in the Nuldam Space consists of postcards, envelopes, and sealing bundles, and includes storage and shipping costs. There are 365 boxes labeled for every day of the next year in the letter storage space. If you fill out letters and postcards and put them in the box with the desired date, the letter will be sent exactly one year later. What should be noted here is that considering the shipping period, you should choose a storage box with a date 3 days before the desired arrival date.

How to write a postcard

1. Buy a postcard set.

2. Write your letter, and then write the address and date on the page using the provided pen.

3. Place the letter in an envelope and put a stamp on it.

4. Melt the sealing wax with a candle and stamp it to seal it.

5.  Put the postcard in the storage box according to

the date that you want it mailed.

Two reporters of Pharos visited Nuldam Space and wrote postcards to our loved ones. This is our impression of visiting Nuldam Space.

Lee Su Bin Reporter:  Since moving out, I’ve had a hard time making a call to my parents. I couldn’t even send short text messages because I was busy with school activities and part-time jobs. I entered college just because I thought that I should get a job as soon as possible, and perform filial duties for my parents. However, this was rather an act of turning a blind eye to my parents. I wrote a letter to express my apology and gratitude for the things I usually neglected. I started to ask about my parent’s health and safety and to write about specific memories with my family. Recalling the happy memories of the past while writing, I suddenly missed my parents’ faces. In Nuldam Space, I was able to feel the immeasurable love of my parents, which I had forgotten.

Cho Seo Yun Reporter:  I tried to think of the last time that I had written a handwritten letter. I hadn’t written a letter for so long that I couldn’t remember. I usually contact people through phone messages, and I wrote letters less and less because it is tiresome. Writing a letter seemed to be hopeless, but surprisingly, after the first line, I began to write with ease. I wrote the letter to my future self, and I was able to think a lot while spending time writing a letter to myself, not someone else. In addition, I was able to have time to think about just myself, such as the things that I experienced when I first entered university and the things that I wanted to achieve after a year. Writing a handwritten letter may be awkward and embarrassing at first, but I think writing a handwritten letter, not a text message, is a meaningful way to think about not only myself but also precious people in my life.

Any story, such as a slightly embarrassing story, words of consolation and encouragement, and a promise for the future, is fine. If you have something that has not been said to your loved ones, why don’t you send a letter to your loved ones with all your heart?
