Kgchelin, a food court located on the first basement floor of the Welfare Center, sells a variety of foods such as pork cutlet, rice soup, hamburgers, and ramen. For the new semester of 2023, Pharos would like to tell you about what’s on the menu at the recently renovated school restaurant Kgchelin, provide recommendations from each restaurant owner, and give candid reviews from students.

SsongSsongDongas sells not only Japanese food such as pork cutlet and udon, but also Western food such as tomato, carbonara, and rosé pasta. In addition, cold buckwheat noodles, kimchi cheese cutlet nabe, and jjamppong udon are their seasonal dishes. You can have a meal as a single item or set. Ikuramen sells noodles and fried foods such as ramen, tantanmen, fried shrimp, pork cutlet and croquette. Mangwonhwabap sells various types of rice topped with steak, dakgalbi, and beef. BAGUETTE BURGER sells a variety of hamburgers ranging in price from 4,000 won to 5,000 won, making it easy to choose. Customers can order single items, combos, or set menus. Okmigwan sells Korean food such as rice soup, braised spicy chicken,  braised short ribs, and stews.

SSongSsongDongas

•Sweet Potato-Cube-Cheese-Pork Cutlet: The portions are big and memorable. I think I’ll eat this again if I visit Kgchelin.

•Kimchi-Cheese-Cutlet-Nabe: This is go-to dish when you’re not sure what to eat. It’s not too fancy.

•Premium Cutlet: The pork cutlet meat is crispy and delicious. However, even though it's a signature dish, the price is a little steep and it often takes a long time to make.

Mangwonhwbap

•Dakgalbi and Bulgogi over Rice: The amount and quality of food make it a good value for the price.

•Steak over Rice: The quality of the meat on the particular day determines the taste of the food. One day, the texture was soft and delicious, but on another day, the texture was too tough. It was a shame.

BAGUETTE BURGER

If you are too lazy to go to Mom’s Touch nearby the back gate, I would recommend this option, but the price is a little high.

Through interviews with the Kgchelin restaurant owners, Pharos found out what the owners recommended.

Ikuramen’s recommendation: Tonkotsu Ramen, Tantanmen

Ikuramen’s owner: “Kyonggi university students can taste the rich soup using broth made by boiling pork bones, so Tonkotsu Ramen is the best seller. Through Tantanmen, they can taste the spicy and refreshing soup with Ikuramen’s special sauce. Tantanmen is recommended for those who prefer stimulating flavors like mala.

Okmigwan’s recommendation: Spam Soft Tofu, Spam Kimchi Stew

Okmigwan’s owner: “Kyonggi University Suwon Campus is located in the moutains, so many students visit for stew in cold weather. Plus, students who prefer the style of a home-cooked meal seem to enjoy eating comfort dishes.”

BAGUETTE BURGER’s recommendation: Classic Cheese Burger, Original Baguette Burger

BAGUETTE BURGER’s owner: “Customers prefer the simplest item because they can add choices such as cheese and meat patties to each burger according to their personal taste. Those who like spicy flavors choose secret baguettes and American cheese burgers, those who prefer sweet flavors choose grilled fine baguettes, and those who value health choose avocados or premium burgers.”

Pharos received vivid reviews from various students who had tried Kgchelin.

Student 1) “Kgchelin is located on the first basement floor of the welfare center, so it is a convenient dining choice due to its good accessibility, but it is not easy to find. It is good to hit up Kgchelin when you are in a hurry.”

Student 2) “There are many kinds of Korean, Western, and Japanese food, so it is a nice option when many people have to eat together. However, because of the nature of the food court, each corner has a different time when the food is served. Therefore, there may be situations where customers have to wait because the speed of service and dining is different from each other.”

Student 3) “I plan to visit Kgchelin again because it is easy to grab a meal, and there are various foods that I have never tried before. I recommend visiting this place when you are unable to get to the back gate or main gate of Kyonggi University while studying at the school.”

Student 4) “During lunchtime, the waiting time was too long, so it was often similar to the time frame when ordering delivery. However, the waiting time has decreased significantly compared to when it first opened. Complaints about waiting time are expected to be addressed and the service improved.”
