Having dinner and drinking with other people are common social things to do in social life in school or at work. It is also a common situation to go home drunk and alone late at night. In this situation, people often accompany each other home. However, if someone who is not really close tries to accompany another, should he/she lead the other right to their door, or just near the building? Which would be more appropriate? Pharos gathered some opinions about this topic from 23 Kyonggi University students through the community platform Everytime.

Opinion1

I can’t fully trust someone if he/she isn’t that close to me. This lack of trust means this could be a dangerous situation, so I would answer “Near the building.”

Opinion 2

My answer will always be “Near the building.” The only exception is my significant other.

Opinion 3

I would ask him/her what they prefer, and respond accordingly.

Opinion 4

I would go right in front of the door since it’s not a hard thing to do for someone I care about. However, if he/she is uncomfortable with it, I’ll listen to him/her.

Opinion 5

Excessive consideration is poisonous. I would thank the person for taking me home, but I don’t want my address to be revealed.

Opinion 6

I would stop at the main street and ask them to make a phone call so I can verify that they got home safely.

Well-mannered and kind people give positive energy to others. Still, around 78% of the respondents answered “Near the building” is appropriate. Treating people with too much kindness can make for an uncomfortable situation. Where is the line between ‘appropriate manner’ and ‘excessive manners?’ Pharos hopes the world becomes safer and more comfortable in this new year, and asks people to share appropriate levels of affection.
