People’s hobbies have changed due to COVID-19. Before that, We traveled to various places such as travel and concerts and enjoyed activities to hang out with many people. On the other hand, these days, we enjoy activities that do not contact others, such as camping and exhibitions. People in their 20s prefer activities where they can leave pretty photos and enjoy indoors without taking off their masks. Among the activities, exhibitions and photo exhibitions are popular. Among them, We introduce the recently held Yoshigo Photo Exhibition.

The Yoshigo Photo Exhibition is exhibited in Seochon, Ground Sisso, from June 23, 2021, to December 5, 2021, and the viewing time is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the entrance deadline is 6 p.m. It is closed on the first Monday of every month and is open normally on holidays. It is exhibiting under the theme of “Yoshigo Photo Exhibition: Records of Warm Holidays,” and is the first individual exhibition in Korea by photographer Yoshigo. From European resorts surrounding the Blue Mediterranean Sea to Miami, Dubai, and Budapest, 350 photos of various travel destinations around the world will be divided into three sections: architecture, documentary, and landscape.

The first theme is architecture. The exhibition will be held on the second floor, and PART 1. ARCHITECTURE can be viewed in three parts. It is a section that introduces writers, a section that introduces how to take pictures using the harmony of light, and a section that introduces how to produce balanced photos. Entering the section introducing the artist, it introduces the artist’s unique photographic techniques and styles that appear in the artist’s architectural photos. It can be seen that his signature mark, which is shown in composition, color, and subject, contains the artist’s graphic design taste, which is an essential element that differentiates it from others and is his own voice. Entering the second corner, we will introduce how to deal with light under the subtitle Light & Shade. He emphasized that completing the landscape and color is not editing, but a harmony between the subject and light. In the third corner, under the subheading “Symmetry & Geometry,” part 1 will be completed by showing works embodied in balanced and neat images using the symmetry and geometric elements of the architecture.

The second theme is about the documentary element of photography, the Record of Reality. Yoshigo finds a hidden balance between exotic and unknown, and captures the reality as it is. These are photos recorded from a personal point of view by an author who has become a “Planheur,” or “a leisurely wandering walker,” in unfamiliar places such as the United States, Dubai, and Japan. It has all the time, atmosphere, and space in the frame. The moment you follow his footsteps, the magic trip to the time tunnel begins. Whenever you move along the path, you can feel that the atmosphere and color change significantly from city to city. As such, Yoshigo combined his style with the local culture to complete more wonderful photos. Photos recorded while experiencing this new culture fill the “Documentary” section. It is so beautiful that you can make a work with just the color of the chair that contrasts with the blue sky and the sea.

The last theme is the landscape. Yoshigo was born and raised in San Sebastian, a famous tourism city in northern Spain. Because of this, the sea appeared as the artist’s main photographic landscape and is the longest archiving theme. The relationship between beautiful natural scenery and tourist was expressed in a unique visual language. “Mediterranean Nostalgia” is the author’s hometown, also the longest filming location. The region offers a feeling of loneliness and nostalgia. The artist said, “Loneliness is the unique mood of the San Sebastian. It looks like a very nice and beautiful city, but it’s actually a cold and lonely village.” ‘TOURISM LANDSCAPE’ deals with the philosophy of tourism in photographs. It is the light that most important thing in photography. Light has a huge impact on the picture that changes over time. When taking landscape pictures, Yosigo tried to eliminate the existence of people as much as possible to show the importance of space and understand the weight. Balance the proportion of people on each corner of the frame with the approaching waves to adjust the organized composition, and the press the shutter when interacting with the subject.

It is impressive to create ideal works using the light of the sun and take pictures that are different depending on the time zone even in the same place. Along the curating, all the atmosphere and installations are suitable for each country. For example, in the Dubai section, we could feel like walking in the middle of the desert by implementing a sandy beach on the floor, and the Japanese section works were displayed in acrylic frames. Moreover, the calm music and the natural gaze of the subjects who did not look at the camera gave the impression that visitors were together in the picture. Due to the COVID-19, we can’t imagine the crowd situation. However, If you are frustrated that you can’t go on a trip now, Pharos recommends you to go on a trip through the YOSIGO exhibition.
