2021 Changes in Employment Trends After COVID-19

 Since COVID-19, there have been many changes in the job market, ranging from recruitment time to interviewing. The reality is that demand for manpower at many companies is gradually decreasing as the economy is struggling. Companies prefer new experienced workers who can undertake a task immediately. This is because the training period will be shorter and this is more cost-effective. Currently, the number of non-face-to-face interviews has increased significantly due to COVID-19, and the trend of recruitment using AI has spread. The reason why AI adoption is increasing is that reliability, fairness, and efficiency can be maximized. By minimizing human intervention, a fair recruitment process is possible and a lot of data can be processed in a short time.


 According to the latest employment trend in 2021, the Kyonggi University Human Resources Development Office is providing capacity building services for job seekers. The AI interview consists of six processes. In the basic interview, which is the first stage of an AI interview, AI analyzes people’s faces, voices, and speed of speech. If there is a sudden change in facial expression or tone of voice, it is determined that applicant is hesitating or nervous. The next step is a personality and aptitude test. In order to get a good score in the interview, it is better to choose the answer that is similar to your desired job personality. For example, if you aim too strongly for perfectionism, it can be poisonous. After the personality and aptitude test, the situation interview will be conducted. It’s a role-playing game where you play a role and check your ability to cope with situations. Your face, voice tone, and speed are being recorded and analyzed, so it is important to continue to be as calm and natural as possible. After evaluating the applicant’s ability to cope with the situation, an interview will be conducted to identify the nature of the job through a number of choices. Next is the AI game, but this should not be considered as a game. Among the various types of games, the game selected by each company is played. In this way, the AI software can recognize a person’s overall personality just through playing a game. Finally, in an in-depth interview, you will be asked questions from the analysis results obtained through all of the preceding processes. For example, it is contradictory if the answer says that there is a lack of persistence when playing games, but the applicant has a lot of persistence. Being familiar with the opportunities that can be used in advance will help you increase your competitiveness. First, you can check the possibility of passing the AI cover letter. Companies use AI to review self-introduction letters as a tool to filter out applicants. Therefore, the unauthorized use of typos, non-grammatical writing, and existing self-introduction documents should never be done to avoid rejection. If it is difficult to fill out a cover letter, I recommend you to consult with a consultant at the Human Resources Development Office/University Job Plus Center and refine your cover letter. Second, the AI competency test is divided into interviews, tendencies, and games to understand applicants’ capabilities through AI. The point of caution here is not that getting a high score is important, but that the applicant’s desired field matches the applicant’s aptitude. Therefore it’s important to choose the right job first. For this purpose, I recommend you do an occupational interest test, a personality type test, and meeting with a consultant. After the interview, you can record your answers and send them to your own email to check again. In addition, try to correct your weaknesses through feedback based on the content of the interview.

In hiring in the first half of this year, major companies generally have shown a preference for occasional employment. According to a survey of 201 large companies conducted by ‘Saramin’, a recruiting platform, 35.8% said they would proceed with occasional employment if they hire new employees. How is it different from public employment? First, ‘public employment’ means the method of hiring regularly divided into the first and second half of the year. On the other hand, ‘occasional employment’ is the method of recruiting more workers through job openings when demands aries. The reason why lots of companies are changing their recruitment method is to select the right person for the job when necessary. This also means there is no need to hire reserve workers as before COVID-19. This trend must be unfortunate news to job seekers. In case of occasional employment, there is no opportunity to apply if there is no job-related experience. With the disappearance of the ‘public recruitment season’, it is often difficult to predict how many people will be hired from which company. Many changes caused by COVID-19 are confusing, but we have to overcome hard times by coping properly. Then what attitude and effort should job seekers take amid the spread of occasional employment? The most important thing is checking employment notices every day. If there’s a job you’re interested in, you should continuously observe how each company is hiring. We don’t know when the company will proceed with recruitment. Therefore you should collect lots of information and check it thoroughly through several channels like company recruitment sites and blogs. Therefore you should have a keen interest in the job and develop the abilities which they require in advance.
